Revd. Paul Arnold finds newness in the words of our annual Covenant Service.
The Covenant Service was not invented by John Wesley, but he popularised it and encouraged the people called Methodist to share in it each new year (or at any other significant occasion in the life of a fellowship). In this...
The calling of the Methodist Church is to respond to the gospel of God's love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission.
Our mission in the Shropshire and Marches Circuit is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind, and to love our neighbour as ourselves by the power of the Holy Spirit in our large and rural community.
With God's help we aim to:
be aware of the differing needs of all our congregations and be prepared to adapt in order to offer mutual nurture and support
be aware of the needs of our Ministers, Lay workers and Local preachers and encourage them in their calling and mission
be aware of the needs of our local neighbourhoods and be witnesses for Jesus Christ within them
accept our responsibility towards the natural world by consciously caring for God's creation
be vocal in our commitment to inclusivity, ensuring our churches are places where all are welcome regardless of gender, race, sexuality, or any other issue which might be considered a barrier
so that we may unite as a Circuit in enabling the worship of God, and be a loving, effective and constantly evolving Methodist presence in our communities.
Since the dawn of the day, O God,
my sisters and brothers have sat with you.
In joy and distress,
in confidence and fear.
As we seek to be one with you, Lord,
we seek to be one with them.
Scripture tells us that, as we bear one another's burdens,
we fulfil the law of Christ.
Show us what it means to share the burdens
of your planet and its many people;
to think and to act for good
for the whole of your worldwide family,
especially where our advantages
give us greater power
to build a better world for others.
We sit with you now
as our sisters and brothers sit with you,
under the one sun,
made one in your Son.
Amen.
